abstract = "Modifications of the terrestrial surface, whether natural or
anthropic, refer to the need for periodic updates and corrections
of charts and maps. With the evolution of the resources and
methods of digital mapping such procedures are performed with
agility and precision, giving cartographic reliability to the
representation data. Hydrographic net mappings can be performed by
manual (vectorization) or automatic methods (mathematical
algorithms), being the last of best applicability for studies of
large areas. This work carried out the updating of stretches of
the hydrographic net of the Municipality of Cachoeiro de
Itapemirim (ES). The methodology consisted of the creation of a
database in software environment of the category of Geographic
Information System (GIS), composed by digital cartography
(hydrography and altimetry), aerial photos and orbital images of
high spatial resolution. Hydrographic net of different sources
were compared, being: (1) original topographic map, (2) extracted
from Digital Elevation Model and (3) vectoring of aerial
photographs. The topographic map is outdated due to the time and
methods of preparation, which caused errors in the allocation of
hydrography extracted from the MDE. The vectorization data
presented the best results due to compliance with surface
occurrences. As final product was generated an updated hydrography
net composed of 171 channels distributed by 534.27 linear
                         kilometers.",
